Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) News and Information
PTA FAQs
Q. Why should I join the PTA?
A. Parenting is not easy—it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. Parents involved in PTA understand the challenges schools face and become part of the solution. They support improving education, both locally and legislatively. By developing a closer relationship with parents, student achievement improves, and the school develops a positive reputation in the community. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education. There is no better way to know what is happening in your school. Regularly scheduled meetings are an opportunity for you to hear about & share information with other members. Because PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTA can be a way for you to be involved in your child’s school.
Q. If I sign up with MHS PTSA do I have to volunteer to work a program/event or attend meetings?
A. NO. You are welcomed to attend our PTA meetings and help with our programs, but it is not a requirement. If you give us your email address we will send information letting you know when we need assistance or donations but you are not required to respond or participate.
When you join the MHS PTSA you are helping to get the idea of PTA heard all the way to the White House. PTA is a national organization. When you join at Millikan, you become one of the 1 million voices in California and one of the 5 million voices in the United States speaking out on behalf of our children and education.
Membership in Millikan PTSA is only $7 per person. We send $4.30 on to Council, District & State PTA and we keep $2.70 for our PTSA. We use this money for organizational expenses like sending our volunteers to leadership trainings and meetings as well as paying for other necessities like paper for flyers, etc. The membership drive is NOT a fundraiser for the programs we sponsor. We are more interested in the total number of members Millikan has than we are in the money we raise. Please join and help us grow the Millikan PTA membership. You can help us by signing up more than just yourself. Students are eligible to join and you may join at more than one school.
